The Facts

Did you know that breast cancer is the most common cancer among African American women?

The incidence of breast cancer is 10 percent lower in African American women than in white women; however among young African American women (under 40) the incidence is higher.

Teena Marie on matters of the heart

I know you  are probably wondering, Teena Marie?  What does she have to do with breast cancer??  Well, I don't really know but on the night God called her home to glory, I listened to "Dear Lover" and "Out on a limb" over and over again! God is truly awesome, as I know he placed her on my heart during her journey home.  Teena was a brilliant songstress who lyrics in my opinion were so telling of her heart.  Last year I saw her in concert for the first time (so glad), in a word Magnificent!  She told the story of her love, we all know him Rick James.  Anyone who has ever been in love could tell that after all these years even after his death ...she LOVED him.  Still.......?  Listen to the words of her song as the radio stations play them this week.
It was like she never really got over him and although her life seemed fabulous in our eyes, was her heart broken??? Just my thought.... What really happens to a person who never allows a sore to heal? Can it cause depression, obesity, cancer or even DEATH?  Have you ever wondered about the saying "they died of a broken heart"?   So now you see where I'm going with this. Here's my advice on MATTERS of the HEART.

The heart really matters...
Take time to care for it and all its contents.
Try to resolve ALL of its issues in a timely matter.
Tell it you love it everyday.

No one really knows why Teena died or how we get breast cancer.  But what we do know is love or the pursuit of it sometimes hurts. (It shouldn't) Surround yourself with people who have your best interest at heart and not just theirs. This part was extra!! LOL

In closing I will share one of my favorite versus from God's relevant word.

Proverbs 4:23(NLT) "Guard your heart above all else for it determines the course of your life".
Rest in Peace Teena, love y'all.
